Warsaw

Warsaw is big and full of massive construction at every turn. It's crazy that this whole city was flattened during wwII. Our hostel is really nice (we got upgraded to a private room for free) and I found 200 zloty in a gallery. Got to spend the day with our friends from back home who just started their vacation. We wandered old town, walked to an old vodka distillery and ate tons of perogies. I think I will eat at least one order of perogies every day.

Floor pooper!

Some black out drunk guy woke me and Sunni up this morning by hitting his face on his bunk, violently puking and then shitting himself. He did this while being completely naked!!! Funniest thing I have ever seen. The craziest thing is that in a room of ten people NO ONE, woke up. The room smelled so bad. Me and Sunni packed our stuff and got out of there. I feel bad for everyone when they wake up to a giant pile of human feces and vomit. Good bye Lithuania.

Zappa !!!

Dreamed I was an eskimo
Frozen wind began to blow
Under my boots and around my toes
The frost that bit the ground below
It was a hundred degrees below zero...

And my mama cried
Nanook, a-no-no
Don't be a naughty eskimo
Save your money, don't go to the show

Well I turned around and I said oh, oh oh
And the northern lights commenced to glow
And she said, with a tear in her eye
Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow
Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow

Vilnius

Vilnius is so much prettier than Riga. I had no idea what to expect coming to the Baltic's, but my conceptions were all mixed up and wrong. We went from beautiful churches to a prison in a matter of few minutes walk. We've already found two good veg restaurants too.

Riga

Riga is dirty. None of the the ultra sanitized feel in Tallinn. The place is teeming with night clubs and our hostel is clearly designed for partying. We buddied up with some Aussie and kiwis that were in our room. We took a fun walking tour and bought some weird junk at the soviet black market. One soviets garbage is another mans souvenir! The hostel took us on a pub crawl and we got see some bars that we wouldn't have gone to our own. All the bouncers were terrifying.

Abandoned prison

We wandered out of old town and stumbled upon a massive abandoned prison. Barbed wire and bars everywhere. The place was terrifying. I guess they have a museum, but it was closed. We spent a few hours exploring it and checking out all the cool abandoned soviet factories around it. The whole area reminded me the D.

Sauna

Payed 20 euro for a private soviet style sauna. Leather chairs, a pool, and some blazing hot rocks.

Depeche mode

There's a bar in tallinn that only plays Depeche mode. We were the only people in there for like a half hour. I loved it, Then some euro trash showed up and Sunni wanted to leave.

Tallinn

We had no idea what to expect in Tallinn. I assumed it would be a dirtier post-commie Helsinki. I was wrong. Small and charming with perfect weather and cheap tasty food. They have the most innovative history museum that I have ever been to. Everything was presented In a modern stylish way. It baffling that a country that has been CONSTANTLY oppressed can be doing so well.

Ferry to Estonia

Why fly when you can take a big boat?

New stuff in Helsinki

Tried to do the stuff I didn't get a chance to do last time I was here. We took a ferry to an island fort. Big ramparts and cannons. Lots of wild flowers and families. Not sure why I didn't visit last time. We also went to the the "rock church". I must have passed this gorgeous building by 10 times and not bothered to go in. I can't think of a classier house of worship. Only one tinny cross in the entire church with a huge a circular copper ceiling surrounded by windows. As we came in they started playing ave Maria. It was quite a beautiful experience even for a heathen.

Me Sunni terrible food art rain

Best airport experience in all my years of flying. No line at security or customs, no delays, funny movies and decent food. Sunnis doing well on her first hostel trip. Her only misstep so far has been picking the worst Chinese restaurant in the world for dinner. We went to the beautiful conservatory, the modern art museum, hung out in chic design stores and walked through the trails behind our hostel after the rain. Stress level is already down to zero. Much more relaxing to come.

back to Finland

It's time again for my annual summer adventure. This year is going to be the most unplanned so far. Helsinki was the cheapest overseas flight, so that's where the journey begins. Unless something changes, Sunni and my self will then head through all the Baltic's, then maybe Poland and Germany. We have 30 days, so it should be interesting. Keep in touch!
