We couldn’t go to Japan without visiting Hiroshima. I’ve been her before, but Sunni wanted to see it too. Walking through a city that was burned away via an atomic bomb (dropped by your own country) is a bizarre experience. It's a really beautiful place that bares none of the scars you’d expect from such a tragic event. We went to the museum and it was full of diligent students pouring over the exhibits. The most powerful item in the museum (in my opinion) is a child’s melted marbles. Nothing sums up war better.
We took the ferry to Miyajima the next day. It’s known for its huge wooden gate in the water. It was SO HOT. We were dripping soon after getting off the boat. The island has tons of wild deer, but they were too hot to be bother with all the tourists (except for the one that ate Sunni’s map). I had read that there was a beach on the island, so after doing all the tourist stuff, we hiked a few miles down the road (alone the whole time, which is super weird since Japan is normally so busy). The beach was deserted except for a few like minded tourists and a weird Japanese guy who was covered in tattoos, recording himself doing crazy backflips. We found out their was a “bus” that took us back, but it only held 9 people, so I had to sit on the floor.
We had okonomiyaki for dinner. SO GOOD. I have to learn to cook this at home. It normally has all kinds of "animal stuff" in it. This place did full veg!!!
