Cambodia is no longer scambodia!

When you read about getting to cambodia via thailand you get the feeling that it's almost not worth it.  There are tons of blogs and guide books that detail the horror show of bribes, corruption and theft that make up the Overland crossing.  We did our homework and were shocked by how easy it was.  We booked the direct bus online which ended up being  old and pretty shitty,  but besides that there was none of the fear mongering we had read about.  The bus did offer us an easier visa for a price,  but didn't try and pressure or require it.  They left us on our own at the border to get our visas which would have been quite daughnting if I hadn't done my home work.  You get out walk to the visa office,  fill out a form with your picture stapled to it and pay 20 bucks usd.  Sure the visa guys have a hand written sign asking for a bribe... Just refuse to pay it... Wait 5 min... Refuse to pay again... Wait five more min...and then you get your visa extortion free.  Then you wait in line at imagination and try and find some your bus amidst all the chaos.  No big deal.  Certainly not as bad as we thought. Siem Reap is actually pretty low key and very tourist friendly.  It'd also a plus that most places have 50 cent beers and the atms give out usd.  Yeah... They only use their money for change... Straight up American cash for everything else!
