A few people mentioned that we should go to Pai. I did a little research and decided it would be worth the 4 hr bus trip into the mountains. It's a cute little hippy town with beautiful views and interesting food. We came up in the middle of some kind of Buddhist holiday, so all the bars were shut. It was funny to watch all the westerners scramble and plot to find booze. We spent the first night in some kind of dirty jungle guest house. Sunni hated it and couldn't sleep. We woke up to a toad in the bathroom! We stayed the next few days in adorable little houses/sheds by the river. There are enough bugs that each bed comes with a mosquito net and some kind of animal was trying to get into the room the entire night. We hiked up to a huge white Buddha in the hills with beautiful views of the countryside. We found this great place to eat called mama's and went twice a day. Best food of the trip by far. Mama went in out the rain just to pick us up tofu. Each plate of "to die for" food only cost $1! On our last day we rented bikes and rode 7k up hill in 100 degree heat to a water fall. It took 4 sweaty sunburned hours to get there and it was worth it. I swam and watched these crazy Thai kids slide down the rocks. The way home only took 20 min! It was all down hill. I don't think I pedaled once!
