Slovenia is amazing

We got in late at night to be greeted by our Air BnB host. The guy was hilarious. He took us around town, even though it was almost midnight, showing us the sights and telling stories. 62 years old, with children who travel, and he's married to a teacher. We had lots to talk about. Slovenians seem very blunt, which I appreciate. In the span of an hour, he called his boss an irresponsible idiot, the mayor of Ljubljana a bastard, not to mention many choice comments about his wife and kids. Great intro to a city. I wish we had more time with him.

We rented bikes and went exploring. Spent a lot of time in the national cemetery, drank at a brewery, picked plums from a suburban street corner, and dodged loads of tourists along the canals.  The castle that was "literally" on top of our Air BnB was showing movies in the center square, so we bought tickets to see Citizen Four. Before the film started we some how ended up in some rich Asians private wine and cheese tasting. I'm not sure how we got away with it, but we got the full king treatment, by the owner of the vineyard and two expert cheese mongers. We got up the next morning and went to the art museums and visited an "autonomous collective" of anarchists. The place was nuts. Crazy sculptures and graffiti everywhere. Each little room was either a home or a person's studio.

The next night Julie's friend picked us up in his car and took us swimming in lake Bled. Then back to his friend's house for wine from his parents' vineyard and stimulating conversation. We ended up sleeping in his daughter's bed (they were out of town). I've never had better hospitality in my whole life. I hope these gentlemen come to Michigan so I can repay the favor.

We woke up, went to a vegan food truck and then drove to a cave for a tour. It was a little touristy, but still beautiful. Our new friend dropped us off at a park, we went on a long hike, went to another brewery, and then crashed for our early bus ride the next day.
